Bees and beekeeping:

The Harris County Beekeepers Association maintains a listing of all beekeeping associations in Texas. This is the best place to search for a local beekeeper for educational presentations, swarm collecting, or for help in getting started in beekeeping. Another listing of Texas beekeeping associations can be found at the Texas Entomology site. All about Africanized honey bees, from Texas A&M University's agriculture program, including where they are in Texas and the U.S.

Butterflies and butterfly gardening:

Home for the Dallas Lepidopterists Society, an active group that sponsors field trips, a newsletter and regular meetings to talk all things butterfly. More than collectors, these folks raise butterflies, plant butterfly gardens and mentor budding butterfly photographers. The Monarch Watch site, sponsored by the University of Kansas, has loads of information about butterflies and butterfly gardening. Dedicated to education, conservation and research about butterflies.

Consumer Product Websites for Insect Control:

Bayer Advanced product line. Website includes current product labels for widely available pesticides for home, turf, and garden.
Bonide Products. Website primarily designed for distributors, but shows labels and MSDS for their product line.
GardenTech. Website includes information about labels for their grwoing line of products which includes Sevin and Over N Out fire ant killer granules.
Greenlight Company. Website includes a product guide and MSDS information but not labels for Greenlight products.
Ortho products website includes product information but no labels.
SC Johnson manufactures the OFF® and Raid® line of repellents and insect control. Product information but no labels or MSDS.
Scott's lawn and garden product website, like it's companion Ortho site, has product information, but no labels.
Spectrum Industries the manufacturer of Spectracide brand products. Includes label and MSDS information on their pesticides and related garden products.

General Insect Information:

The best single source for information about Texas insects. Includes images, factsheets and lots of entomology-oriented resources. Iowa State University entomology web site has one of the most comprehensive listing of entomology links. If your fascination is with spiders, check out the Arachnology Home Page with over 2000 links to sites about spiders and other arachnids.

Government sites:

The US Environmental Protection Agency maintains much pesticide related news and information, including archives of past news articles and reports. http://www.spcb.state.tx.us/ Texas Structural Pest Control Board is the state agency responsible for licensing professional pest control operators. Lists laws and regulations that govern household and commercial pesticide applications. This is the agency to contact if you have a consumer complaint or question about pest control services. Texas Department of Agriculture's pesticide programs home page provides information on pesticide registration, continuing education programs for pesticide applicators and more. This agency regulates most pesticide applications made to parks, roadsides and golf courses. This is the main site to go to learn about how pesticides are regulated in Texas.

Household insect management:

Center for Urban and Structural Entomology at Texas A&M University has information on ants, termites, cockroaches and other general pests. The termite section is especially useful. Information is also provided on how to submit insects to the Center for identification. Everything you've ever wanted to know about fire ants and more is available through the Texas Fire Ant Management program located at Texas A&M University. US Department of Agriculture's Research Service site on the Formosan termite. Definitive information on this important termite pest that is threatening structures throughout the south.

Landscape pest management:

More than pest management, the Aggie Horticulture homepage contains a wealth of information about growing plants in Texas. One of the most popular sites about horticulture on the Web. http://www2.champaign.isa-arbor.com/consumer/consumer.html International Society of Arboriculture's consumer information page explains the benefits, care and selection of trees for urban landscapes. Benefits of hiring a certified arborist for tree care. This is the best source for information on use of beneficial nematodes in the landscape. From Ohio State University.

Medical and forensic-related entomology:

Texas Department of Health provides some of the best information anyway on West Nile virus and other insect-borne diseases. A search engine allows you to look up news, images, data and statistics on a variety of health-related topics, including insect pests and disease transmission. The crime scene investigators of the insect world meet here. Learn how entomologists are involved in helping solve legal disputes and real-life crime. A listing of certified forensic entomologists can help you find an expert in this highly specialized field.

Organizations:

The Entomological Society of America is the largest organization of entomologists in the world. This site contains a wide range of insect information ranging from articles for kids to access to ESA journal contents and abstracts. Information about entomology certification through the Certification Board is also available through this site. The National Pest Management Association is the largest association of pest management professionals in the U.S. Consumers can find a local professional pest control company, ask an expert questions, and view frequently asked questions from the public. Professionals can stay informed on the latest industry news, conduct research, get sales leads, and network with other NPMA members. http://www.texaspest.org/ The Texas Pest Control Association is the main professional association for pest management professionals in Texas and is an affiliate of the National Pest Management Association. Information is provided on membership and continuing education opportunities for professionals in Texas.

Pest control in sensitive environments: Southwest Technical Resource Center for Integrated Pest Management in Schools is the essential resource for schools looking for resources and assistance with pest management programs. Includes a bulletin board for posting questions, explanations of the legal requirements in Texas schools governing pesticide use, and a newsletter for school facilities managers. The largest and currently the most comprehensive site on the Web for information about integrated pest management for schools. Maintained by the University of Florida. The Insects in the City Institute is a non-profit organization whose goal is to promote safer, integrated approaches to pest management.
